Hey Shani,
You’re a beautiful writer. Any tips and what’s your routine?
Hey You,
Thank you, I am so glad you enjoy my writing. It’s not just how I earn my living, it is who I am as a person, and it’s perhaps the most consistent thing I’ve known about myself since I was a child. I’m not much of a gatekeeper, that practice makes me feel all icky inside, so I’d be delighted to fill you in on my writing process and share any tips I think other writers might find valuable. Apologies if they don’t work for you, this is just what works for me.
The first and probably most annoying truth about my writing process is that it’s quite…how do you say…loosey goosey. I don’t believe in writing challenges, I don’t set word requirements for myself, and while I do plan out my weekly schedule in terms of the tasks I’d like to accomplish each day, when I don’t feel like writing—I don’t write. I’ve never understood how forcing ourselves to do something could ever result in us enjoying that thing or being good at it. Actually now that I think about it that’s another good point about my views on writing: I fucking love doing it, and I think we deserve to love what we do. That leads to good work if you ask me, and come to think of it, you did.
