Hey Shani,
Do I actually need to like my siblings? Because I kind of don’t, and whenever I see other siblings getting along or being “best friends” or just like…choosing to hang out together, I feel both jealous and guilty if that makes sense. I just don’t like them, they’re not who I want to spend time with, and I’m not sure if I’m supposed to feel bad about that or not. Help?
Hey You,
Dude, we didn’t…choose them. Family is sometimes bananas to me. We don’t choose these people (I mean not in any conscious realm, I’ve heard somewhere in the universe our souls choose our families but honestly my soul and I need to have a TALK someday). We have no say in terms of who we are bound to coexist with for a bare minimum of 18 years. You never have to feel bad about not liking people you are related to but didn’t choose to be related to, in my opinion.
It’s an idea that goes against the grain, but when do my ideas ever fit societally accepted norms, that’s certainly not why you’re here. I don’t think you have to like your family. I don’t think you have to spend time with your family if you don’t like them. I think grown adults should be able to live lives completely free of family obligation because I think obligation is absolute bullshit. I don’t want family that feels obligated to be my family. I want people around me who choose to be.
